Gardens of Versailles, the Queen's Hamlet.

La Casa de la Reina. Photo of Guillermo Chaves.

Versailles Palace has lush gardens, when looking for the first time, impressed by his sense of balance and control on landscape design. Its dimensions are intended to cover the infinite, are made to display in command of human over nature, to hold power, wealth and absolute ideals. His sense of aesthetics is associated with greatness, the majesty and symbolism that represents the monarchy . They are sumptuous spaces, Cartesian inspiration, the protagonists in the quest for perfection symmetrical. A perspective imposed on the landscape is predominantly from the visual axis, which felt the range of the absolute. A range that includes the castle and the principle and at the end ... infinity.

The park of Versailles covers about 800 ha , of which 300 ha are forests, gardens reach a total of 130 ha . Although in its heyday, the gardens of Versailles were divided by 8,000 acres saved by a wall of 43 km left to Louis XIV of Master André Le Nôtre, a recognized expert in botany, architecture and painting, the overall planning of the gardens. Its construction lasted for a decade, from 1660 to 1670. Many changes, additions and subtractions that would occur with the passing of a regime collapses, and the dramatic social and political changes that happen, to become what we know today.

As would be too tedious to make a long long description of my journey through them, I to present it by theme, with stops in major parts (from my point of view), and what I could get in a day of observation.

When
Marie Antoinette Louis XVI received the domain of the Petit Trianon, she realized that their gardens did not satisfy him, were more suitable for botanical studies for the enjoyment of a queen who was fond of fads and fashions. At the Queen liked English gardens, so he asked his architect Mique and Hubert Robert , which was replanted the gardens of Versailles, to design a small park on your domain. Appeared when the picturesque prospects, streams and lawns we see today. As the queen would appear the Belbedere invented, the rock that dominates the lake, an island, the Temple of Love, etc. But is the village which would contribute to the reputation of Queen's Garden .

Trails leading to the village, with its Great Lake in the visual.

The Village of Queen Marie Antoinette is a dependency Petit Trianon (one inside the Versailles palace), also called "rule of the Queen" which also contains the Petit Trianon, the garden of the Queen and the Village. Under the First Empire, the Empress Maria Luisa refurnishing proceeds to the Village with a refined taste.

La Aldea de la Reina , "Le Hameau de la Reine" is where Queen Juana Maria Antonia Josefa Hapsburg-Lorraine, wife of Louis XVI reached realize their whims. Stands out for its different concept, the scale is more intimate than the rest of the garden that shows the overwhelming power of human creativity and sovereign power over nature, the atmosphere is pleasant with an air of pastoral and picturesque. The concept is done by feel transported to another environment, in an idyllic and nostalgic that mimics the huts in Normandy.

The idea of creating a village Delfina originated when he saw a picture and fell in love with him. It was the representation of a farm Pays de Caux, Normandy region of , painted by Hubert Robert . The Queen made the explicit request to do an exact recreation of the farm that the painter Norman reflected in one of his canvas. The village was built between 1783 1785 and commissioned by the Queen to the architect Richard Mique . She ordered the architect to build the farm that Robert had painted his picture. The result is reflected in a set of small houses with thatched roofs, slate and wooden balconies with lake and swans to complement the set.

His idea was to create a rural landscape unrealistic and idealized . The Queen liked to enjoy this location and recreate the pleasures of a simple life and a utopian country living, away from the lavish royal rituals of Versailles. Represents the place that puts an end to the patience of the Queen to the protocol, their desire for freedom and longing. The set becomes a real farm, run by a farmer, whose products supplied the Palace kitchens.

course, not settle it was just a farm, but the site you want should include a lake, several buildings such as mills, loft, a country house, a tower, gardens and all type animals. Mary is said Antoinette invited his friends to visit, milked cows from time to time, harvesting and eating of fruits and vegetables from the garden. In this room was accessible only by invitation of the queen and everyone should represent a trade or particular character. Their games were to stop being the consort of the French monarch to become nothing less than a dairy. Something I loved was that his dress should be informal, similar to the clothes of the farming and feel free playing the farmer.

Notably its irregularly shaped lake around which the grouping of these modest constructions, but in reality they hide luxurious interiors. Eleven houses laid out around the Great Lake , five were reserved for use by the Queen and their guests: the Casa de la Reina, the Billiards, the Cabinet, Dairy Farm and Tasting. The four remaining houses were reserved for farmers: the Farm and its annexes, the Barn, the Palomar and Dairy Tasting. Each house had its garden or small garden, there were planted in Milan cabbage, cauliflower and artichokes. It was surrounded by a hornbeam hedge and limits were closed with a brown fence. Small gardens were also planted apple and cherry trees.

stairs, galleries and balconies were decorated with earthenware pots of Saint-Clément, white and blue, containing hyacinths, stock or geraniums. On the walls of houses and pergolas and arches extending some vines that shaded avenues. In 1785 he installed a swing for the real children then dismantled quickly. In 1788, also conditioned a bowling game.

The main building of the set are:

This construction is the most important building Village. Actually consists of two separate buildings linked by a wooden gallery, decorated with earthenware pots of white and blue and the initials of Marie Antoinette: the right is the Queen's house itself, composed on the ground floor of a dining room and a cabinet of games, and on the top floor, a large living room, a lounge and a Chinese cabinet, on the left, the house consists of Billiards on the ground floor, a billiard room and upstairs a small room.

Marlborough Tower, a beacon that overlooks the shores of Grand Lake, was used to go fishing or boating. In the tower known as Torre Fishery of Marlborough is stored the material used for fishing for pike and carp. Its top observatory served to communicate signals with the Palace of Versailles.
Its name is a reflection of the fashion Anglomania at the time, recalls the song composed in 1722 on the death of the Duke of Marlborough. Even today it is known the refrain of the song "Mambrú went to war," which became very famous in court by the mother of the Dauphin, Madame poitrine (Boobs).

With its flat square, the warming was the building that housed a large kitchen, pantry and small rooms. In which prepared the dishes for dinner and other banquets that were given in the Casa de la Reina. Summary is furnished: a fireplace, an oven, a pine table, a floor covered with tommettes.

dairy products like butter or cheese is manufactured at the Dairy Preparation, destroyed during the First Empire, which was located in front of the Dairy Tasting. There is skimmed milk and butter churning. The Queen tried dairy products. The house was furnished with marble tables, equipped with china. Although it was restored under Louis XVIII, the dairy was less luxurious than the conditioned in the Palace of Rambouillet.

The Farm (La Ferme)

At their request, Marie Antoinette had a small farm building on your property for his own amusement. The farm was bought and restored in 1993 by Foundation Animal Assistance. After a superb farm catering exclusively reserved for children's learning. There are staff who cared for and the accompanying while parents visit the Chateau de Versailles . Its purpose is to familiarize children ages 5-12 with nature. The Learning House also taught some other secrets. In a historical context, children can pick fruit and vegetables and even taste the cow's milk. The Farm was located apart from the Village time and hosted a variety of livestock: a small herd of eight cows and a bull, ten goats, sheep and doves.

The whole palace and park of Versailles, including the Grand Trianon and Petit Trianon, which was declared a World Heritage Site by Unesco in 1979. To reach the Queen's Hamlet have to walk 1.5 km from the palace of Versailles, it is better start walking consulting a map, it is possible to become disoriented by the labyrinthine paths that lead to this site. If no one wants to also rent bicycles or electric carts. Any effort is worth it to see and enjoy these magnificent gardens, is above all more lovely if we take a full day to enjoy the gardens, and spend an unforgettable time.
