Luther H. The abbreviation is used to indicate Harry E. Luther as an authority on scientific description and classification vegetables. Luther (1952 -) is an American botanist who made extensive botanical expeditions to the U.S. (Florida), Mexico, Panama, Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Brazil. Luther is internationally recognized as an expert in horticulture and botany of the bromeliads, and is one of the leading experts in the systematics of the family of the bromeliads. described over 100 species of bromeliads new to science, and has authored over 200 scientific publications and popular.

Ospinae Vriesea is an endemic species of bromeliad the eastern slope of the Colombian Eastern Cordillera , on the border between the departments of Boyacá , Casanare Cundinamarca and between 400 and 1,300 m altitude.

In its original habitat is grass land or rupícola , short caulescent (said of the plant stem is apparent), which can grow alone or in small groups, and reaches about 50 cm tall when flowering. inhabits environments wet and rainy of montane tropical flats, usually in cliffs, bluffs and roadsides. Its name honors the discoverer; Dona Berta Hernández Ospina , former first lady of the Republic, and one of the largest growers of bromeliads Colombians of all time . (2)

Vriesea Ospinae grows 40 cm in diameter and 50 to 80 cm high, can be planted in a soil with good drainage, a rock garden, or in a large pot.
